NOTHING PEDESTRIAN ABOUT PORTRAIT OF HOPE
PAINTED ON SHOES OF CANVAS

NEW YORK, February 1, 2008 - The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education, is giving the public an opportunity to paint their own art on 300 pairs of shoes donated by SKECHERS for the Art Miles Shoes of Hope campaign. Shoes of Hope Campaign offers a unique interactive shoe painting gathering with youth at this event set up and managed by Kubichan Communications. The New York Coalition of 100 Black Women also helped bring all parties together.

Shoes of Hope is the latest initiative from Art Miles. With over 15,000 shoes donated, this interactive educational program spreads inspiration on a global scale. Donated shoes painted by communities around the world are shipped internationally to children in need. By combining the practical need for shoes with the communicative power of art, the colorful shoes change lives and spread compassion.

“We’re pleased to partner with Art Miles Shoes of Hope on this worthy cause,” said Jennifer Clay, SKECHERS’ Vice President of Corporate Communications. “As a global brand, we understand how important it is to contribute to communities around the world. With the highly esteemed MET’s Education Center presenting this incredible event, we believe it will inspire people from around the city and beyond to connect with those who need it most.”

Art Miles Shoes of Hope have been donated by Art Miles, SKECHERS, Wal-Mart, Steve & Barry’s and painted by people in the US, Canada, Japan and Korea. Hand-written messages of peace and hope are tucked into every shoe. Over 15,000 shoes have been shipped to Africa, including Uganda, South Africa, Namibia and Ghana. From its educational painting process to its personal deliveries to babies and children at refugee centers, orphanages and schools, Shoes of Hope is a profound experience.
