United Nations Southern California Tribute to Katharine Kubichan
San Diego, CA, December 15, 2007 - During its annual meeting, United Nations Association USA honors an exceptional member who has provided commendable service and leadership throughout the year. In 2007, the Southern California Division chose Katharine Kubichan as that outstanding member. Katharine has persisted in expanding awareness for the United Nations in San Diego, as well as building stronger relations between the United States and the United Nations.

Katharine Kubichan has been involved in the international business world for over15 years, and has been dedicated to non-profit organizations for over 20 years. She has been a member of UNA since 1999 and became President in 2005.

In the past decade, Ms. Kubichan has successfully introduced new initiatives, in addition to improving already existing programs. Board Member Rhoda Gilbert states: “Katharine brought new vigor to UNA-SD. Under her leadership as President of the Board, UNA-SD restructured its organization, broadened its internship program, recruited young professionals to get involved, expanded its cooperation with other community organizations, initiated a PR/Marketing plan, and encouraged innovative event planning. All this, and more, has occurred in less than two years!”

The United Nations Association is an international organization that facilitates cooperation in international law, health, security, development, and equality. The San Diego Chapter fosters this commitment through public symposiums, events, and fundraisers; thereby creating understanding of global cooperation through education. UNA-SD is one of the oldest non-profit institutions in San Diego and is located in the UN Building in Balboa Park.
